Edge Lit Acrylic Mustang

Another birthday gift, I built this Mustang desk decoration.

Skills - Fusion 360, Soldering, Laser Cutting

Laser engraved acrylic

The acrylic is engraved using an image that I converted to black and white then rastered onto some clear acrylic. Then I used Inkscape and Fusion360 to create the outline that was cut using the laser cutter. The wooden base is also laser cut and has a section for the electronics.

A diy LED strip

The electronics are very simple, it’s 7 diodes soldered in parallel and connected to a 3 AA battery case with an on-off switch. All of the electronics sit inside the laser cut base.

And its done!

This edge-lit acrylic LED sign uses diodes to light up a laser engraved piece of acrylic. The acrylic is clear so the light only refracts off of the sections that were rastered.
